Biome Project - Coral Reef

This is my coral reef biome shadox box. I made it with the prespective of looking through some coral so i cut the edges in the shape of coral and drew some in on the sides. For my animals I made a shark, an octopus, and some coral. I also added some various assorted sea grasses.

Biome Thumbnail Sketches

For my thumbnail sketches I drew (from top left to right) orange coral, a shark, red coral on a rock, a tang fish, and a clown fish in an anemone

Illustration Friday: Midsummer Night

When I heard midsummer night i immediately pictured a pastoral scene wit lightning bugs, so that's what I drew. Thinking of what I learned in the module, I blended some colors together on the house to create an entirely new color

Color and Space

To me it seems I did fairly well with creating the illusion of space with color, but I think I could have done better by using smaller areas of warm and cool colors closer together. I believe I did best at contrasting the colors with the alternating bands of warm and cool colors. I did the worst on blending colors because the crayons were not good quality and refused to blend well

Complementary Color Scale

I blended red and green to create a dark blackish color

Color Value Scale

I had some trouble with this because my oil pastels did not blend well

Two Point Perspective Drawing

This is my two point perspective drawing of a corner in my dad's office. It is slightly distorted and I did a very poor job of tracing with the sharpie so some of the lines are not as straight as they originally were.

My Photocollage

This is my photocollage of my trampoline. It consists of around 15-20 pictures. While i was taking these pictures my dog would randomly run in to some of the pictures so I figured that showing him multiple times would be a good way of showing time passing. To put myself in the image and at the same time show passing time I found a really old picture of me jumping on it and added it.

Illustration Friday: Bottled

For this illustration Friday I thought a message in a bottle would do nicely, I even made it a Cheerwine bottle to relate to our area

One-Point Perspective Exercise

This is an image of one side of my room. The black rectangle on the ceiling is a light. The black things on the wall are posters and the black cube on the ground is a subwoofer

Illustration Friday: Launch

I looked around for some ideas on what to draw for launch and I searched it on google and the first couple of responses had to with the space shuttle and one of the definitions of launch was to start. Also the space shuttle was recently retired or 'un-launched' so I thought drawing a space shuttle launch would be particularly ironic

Contour Line Drawing Self-Critique

For these contour line drawings I set up the objects at eye level when I drew them. I thought that this would give the best angle to draw. In the blind drawings I found it not terribly hard to draw the outline of the object, but drawing contour lines within the object where very hard to place in the correct spot. I also had trouble accurately representing the curvilinear lines while I found all other types of lines much easier to draw. For the regular contour line drawings I found it much easier to recreate the objects and was actually surprised by how well I drew them. My biggest problem was trying to create perfectly straight lines as mine were often slightly crooked. I feel that I did best at making all of the aspects of the subject to scale

Illustration Friday: Swarm

For swarm I just searched the word on google and every result seemed to have something to do with bees. So I figured I'd just go ahead and draw bees swarming, but just to be different i decided to make them swarm towards the hive instead away from it as usual.

My Photomontage

So for my photomontage I chose the scene of a ski resort because my whole family loves to ski and we take ski trips every year. The picture didnt cover the whole paper so i cut out parts from a copy of the image and added them. I depicted myself on skis because skiing is my most favorite thing to do. I put my father off in the background climbing a mountain because he loves to climb mountains and often wanders off. I put my sisters together off to the side because they often do their own thing together and finally I put my mother In the center seeming like she is yelling because usually she is at the center of things, organizing and keeping order

My Sketchbook Cover

This is my sketchbook cover created in the Op Art style. This placement of the little oval shapes creates the illusion of movement, I used paint shop pro on the computer to create this.

Illustration Friday #5: Stir

For the word stir I started out by just drawing a hand stirring in a pot and coloring in the background. But then I realized that was really boring so I decided to cut away parts of the background to add something more interesting. I looked up the definition of stir and found that one definiton was to incite and the example said something about stirring up rebellion.. With that definiton in mind, I found a picture of a riot from the American Revolution and printed it out and set it as the background.

Illustration Friday: Sweater

For sweater I decided to just walk into my closet and pick out one of my sweaters to draw. I chose this one because I like argyle a lot and thought it would be fun to draw
